Professional Investigators Are Legal & Ethical

Posted by Bill on December 9, 2007

Our good friend and PIAVA member, John Sexton wrote recently about the legal and ethical considerations of investigators and security specialists, John’s Blog. Many potential clients call and ask immediately if you can investigate someone and get their bank records, financial records and/or telephone records.  The professional and ethical private investigator will respond with the legal methods used to get such information.

Sometimes when I get this question from a potential client, I explain the legalities of proper and legal investigations and emphasize the possibility of criminal/civil liability as well as adverse publicity that may “play” in the news media.  Most potential clients understand this and want to proceed in a legal and ethical manner.  Others will say “Well, thanks, anyway” and hang up.  From this reaction, I know I do not want their business.  I am not placing my reputation, license or integrity in jeopardy for any potential client.

As John Sexton says when you need a professional investigator hire someone qualified, licensed, insured and that operates within the law.
