Horse Neglect Cases Rise
Across the U.S., the number of horses whose owners won’t or can’t properly care for them is mushrooming. Spurred by retiring baby boomers and their penchant for second homes in the country, horse ownership boomed in the U.S. over the past decade. Americans own more than nine million horses today, up from just over six million horses in the mid-1990s, according to the American Horse Council, a trade association.
Along with the boom came backyard breeding, as owners without the discipline or financial muscle to obtain award-winning genes settled for whatever nature produced. More than two million Americans own horses, and more than a third of those owners have a household income of less than $50,000. As the horse population soared — and the economy ceased to gallop — selling the animals became more difficult. Some owners could no longer afford their investment. Click to continue story

PIAVA, your premiere VA private investigators association, PIAVA, is having its monthly meeting, Wednesday, January 16, 2008. The meeting is in Vienna, VA.
PIAVA members John Irvine and Hal Hendershot will talk to us about computer forensics. They are highly qualified experts.
John is manager of the Technical Analysis Department, Crucial Security. Crucial Security provides state-of-the-art technical engineering and security services to elite clients in the business, law enforcement and intelligence communities.
Prior to joining Crucial Security, John did his share of forensics work with the FBI and as a contractor for the CIA and DEA, John has a BS in Management, an MS in Information Systems, and a Graduate Certificate in Software Systems Engineering from George Mason University. John is also an industry recognized and certified CFCE and EnCE.
Hal is Deputy Program Manager with Crucial Security, Crucial Security. He had a wealth of experience participating in and overseeing computer crime investigations and computer crime programs in various positions with USDOJ. He also has experience in helping develop massive parallel processing techniques for use in high level narcotics investigations. He has a BS in Commerce from the University of Louisville and an MBA from Bellarmine College. Hal is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Information Security Manager, and a member of a number of professional organizations.
